King's Maths School opens

King’s College London Mathematics School was officially opened by the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan, yesterday afternoon.

Ms Morgan said: ‘I am delighted that hundreds of our capital’s students now have the opportunity to attend King’s College London Mathematics School. It will become a centre of excellence that will play a crucial part in ensuring our country continues at the forefront of science and maths’.

The school caters for 120 highly motivated students aged 16-19 selected for their particular aptitude and enthusiasm for mathematics. The free school will provide opportunities for the brightest and best young mathematicians in London and in particular to those students who may not otherwise have access to high quality mathematics teaching.

Our brief was to rearrange the internal shell to allow for state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces, with intelligent consideration to how the students will learn and how we could encourage social interaction for sharing thoughts and less insular working.
