This project consists of new offices and training units for Warwickshire Police Authority, and a local Police Station for Coleshill.
External areas and room adjacencies are determined by the associated levels of security and public participation. These adjacencies are arranged along two primary elements. The first manifests itself as a large spine wall running from east to west. The second element relates to the site topography and forms a level change with a retaining wall running at right angles to the spine wall. The common reception area is at the heart of the plan, on the intersection between the spine wall and retaining wall. Upon entering the reception area the security point to the left allows passage to the local police area; security to the right allows validated visitors/staff to pass through the spine wall and into the main secure areas of the building. Circulation beyond this point runs along the spine wall with secondary access control security points between zones. Thus the building form differentiates between public and private areas, and is integral to the security ideology of the compound.
