Gingerbread City 2024

This year’s Gingerbread City takes on the theme of the ‘Recycled City’, and our sweet rendition of this is the reimagining of London’s traditionally private residential Victorian terrace into a vibrant community asset, Haverstock’s ‘Quality Street’!

Through small, thoughtful repairs and playful adaptations, we breathe new life into these familiar structures, weaving the existing fabric into a patchwork of textures, colours and stories.

This transformation centres around the creation of a new nursery and garden designed to support children’s learning through inclusive and imaginative play. Terraced houses are retrofitted to accommodate the nursery while the middle gable has been converted into a wintergarden and events space for the local neighbourhood. The railway arches provide shared resources for the community including a foodbank, kitchen and reuse and repair workshop!

This is a hopeful vision for what makes a street, a Quality Street. Answering the demand for resilient neighbourhoods with inclusive spaces to bring people together and promote local, sustainable ways of living.

A massive thank you to our gingerbread project manager, Susie and her team of talented builders for bringing this vision to life.

The Gingerbread City is on display at The Gaumont in Chelsea until December 29th! Check it out here
