Open City: How tall are you?

Earlier this week we took part in an Open City's "Architecture in schools: Primary" workshop, where we are partnering with Year 6 students from the Cubitt Town Junior School in East London. Open City has invited them to design a "city home for bees, birds, bugs or bats".

To find inspiration, and explore concepts of structure, materials, function and scale, we visited the Blizard Building (at Queen Mary University). One of the activities involved measuring ourselves to work out the size of the building. The experience proved a great way for children to engage and interact with architecture, and we will encourage the students to apply these experiences to their personal design projects.

In a couple of weeks we'll be running another workshop, this time at their school, where we’ll explore model making skills and develop design proposals. We look forward to seeing the "city homes" progress in the following weeks!
