A modest pavilion sits adrift of the public highway on the intersection of a public footpath leading from the principle school it serves.
The building takes the traditional linear pavilion typology as a means of improving on the typical Football Foundation layout on which this project is based. This allows all spaces within the building to overlook the playing fields and sports pitches. It was necessary to place the pavilion on piloti due to the site being a flood plain. Despite increasing costs this has advantageous aspect potential and allowed the incorporation of steps to the entire building frontage allowing spectators to view matches and athletics. Further to this, consultation was very high on the agenda and very necessary due to the many different users groups. These ranged from semi professional football and cricket teams through to schools and community users. The pavilion provides for team changing rooms, secure lobby, and social space. Tight budget constraints have also ensured an economy of scale and detail. The resulting building works very hard with all elements having to be robust and secure.
