The proposed works include constructing a new teaching, entrance and kitchen/dining block, refurbishing the east corner of the school and implementing a new landscape design across the site.
Each of the builds have been designed as single storey blocks as a response to the existing school. The Teaching Block will be constructed to replace the damaged infant block to the northwest corner of the site and will include 3 classrooms, 3 group rooms, a dedicated external play area per classroom, staff office, cloak room and WC areas. The Entrance Block is proposed as a small extension in the east corner of the site to incorporate a general office, accessible WC, waiting/welcome area and a small interview room whilst the Kitchen & Dining Block will replace the existing caretaker building in the northern corner of the site to include a hall, kitchen, office, storage and WC areas. The vacant space within the school (resulting from moving the kitchen/dining facilities into a new block) is to be reappropriated with a new music/staff room and place 2 be.
The landscape design has been developed to integrate the new buildings within an enhanced outdoor learning environment. A new `social quad’ is proposed, enabling the easy connection from the new dining hall onto a part covered external seating terrace and then onto the quad. To the rear of the school, dedicated outdoor spaces for Key Stages 1 & 2 are provided to ensure play activities can be easily supervised. Feature areas include a story-telling corner and a quiet garden. Both to the front and rear of the new Key Stage 1 classrooms are breakout spaces for outdoor learning activities. The Foundation Years are also catered for with secure but welcoming nursery and reception play spaces. These can connect directly to the new hard court for activities including tricycle circuits.
